3 Stars A chatty puppy
The Mio Pup was a Christmas gift for my 7 year-old daughter. The pup makes a variety of sounds and displays various “eye” icons depending on its mood. It’s mood can change if you pet it or speak to it. It walks a bit and has a bone that attaches magnetically to its mouth. After a couple of days it made a lot of sounds and displayed icons that didn’t seem to be consistent; it turned out that the batteries that came with the pup needed to be replaced. These batteries were heavy-duty types, but when replaced with alkalines the pup behaved normally. My daughter specifically asked for the pup as a gift and was delighted with it initially. She studied the manual and was soon expert at discerning the pup’s moods based on the sounds and icons. But it seems that it makes too much noise (just like a real pup) and she has turned the pup off. It still has a prominent place with her stuffed animals. It looks good as it is, even if it isn’t moving or emoting.

4 Stars It’s an okay toy
We purchased this toy for my daughter for Christmas. One of the reasons I purchased it was because she really wanted a dog (real dog) but I am not fond of them. The commercials and reviews made it seem like it was as close to a real dog as a toy could get. It is not. It is not even as tech savy as I thought it would be. My daughter was disappointed at first because she expected sooo much more because of the commericals, but she really does seem to like it. She loves the sounds it makes and how it tells you when it is hungry, sad, etc. She loves that she can make it play music. So it is an okay toy, but not as great as advertising made it seem.

2 Stars Disappointing
I bought this last year for my step-daughter for Christmas. It was at the top of her wish list. She played with it for one day and it has been in the toy box ever since. It’s cute but does not maintain the attention of a 7-8 year old. Sometime it starts to “bark” and doesn’t stop.
